In June 2019, TPG attended the Women United’s Food for Thought: Challenges of Child Welfare luncheon sponsored by United Way of Acadiana (UWA).  Guest speaker Marketa Walters, Secretary of the Department of Children and Family Services, discussed the successful passage of the legislation in the 2019 Regular Session to raise the foster child age to 21 and the positive impact that it will be in the lives of foster children. A group of women, including Mrs. Elizabeth Picard, were recognized for their support for early childhood education and other important bills for women and children in the 2019 Regular Session.

Heather Duhon, Executive Director and Co-Founder of Foster the Love Louisiana, also spoke about organization’s mission to support the Louisiana foster system and how the community can support the system.

The week following the luncheon, TPG Director of Association and Federal Affairs Paige Hightower and TPG Legislative Analyst Caroline Higgins delivered two baskets full of donations for Foster the Love Louisiana.
