Nic Walts serves as Director of Policy for The Picard Group. Prior to The Picard Group, he worked for three years in the Louisiana State Senate as a legislative assistant to Senator Neil Riser, as well as Senator Jody Amedee. He brings a wealth of knowledge concerning the legislative process in Louisiana and an understanding of a multitude of both state and local issues.
While in college, Walts became fully immersed in all that Louisiana has to offer and developed an understanding and appreciation for the diversity in the state while working on various gubernatorial and congressional campaigns.
Originally a native of California, Walts grew up surfing and playing beach volleyball but traded in his board when he decided to go to Louisiana State University and graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree. He was a member of Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity and served on the Interfraternity Council as Vice President of Standards.
He continues his community involvement as a member of the705 Young Professionals in Lafayette and as chair of State Government Day on the Program Committee for Leadership Lafayette. He is a graduate of Leadership Lafayette Class XXVIII, sits on the Board for Junior Achievement of Acadiana, and has supported Lafayette Education Foundation’s ReProm as a court member. To complement his work at The Picard Group, Walts participates in the governmental affairs committee at One Acadiana.
