Nick Cahanin serves as Director of State and Local Government Affairs for The Picard Group. His extensive background of state and local government brings key strategic insight and experience to any situation. From the executive and legislative branches of government to the regulatory bodies, Cahanin is well versed in all aspects of state and local government. He has over 13 years of public service, starting with his time served in the United States military and the governor’s office for the State of Louisiana. Cahanin served as Director of Intergovernmental Affairs in the governor’s office, acting as a liaison between the governor and hundreds of local elected officials throughout the state of Louisiana. During his time with the governor, Cahanin served as Deputy-Legislative Director and was tasked with managing the relationship between the governor’s office and the members of the House and Senate of the Louisiana Legislature.
Cahanin is a member of the Louisiana Association of Business and Industry, where he serves on the Energy Council and Healthcare Task Force, a member of One Acadiana, board member for the Leadership Institute of Acadiana, and serves on the board of directors for the Acadiana Chapter of the American Red Cross.
A native of Rayne, Louisiana, Cahanin graduated from Liberty University, earning a bachelor’s degree in Management and Accounting, and the University of Louisiana, earning a Master of Business Administration (MBA). He is married and has two beautiful daughters. His formative years were spent carrying out duties and responsibilities on his grandfather’s thoroughbred horse racing farm. After high school, he swapped out his riding boots for combat boots and served in The United States Marine Corps. Cahanin is a combat veteran who served in Operation Iraqi Freedom in Fallujah, Iraq. His tenacious, competitive spirit, coupled with intense self-discipline, has led to successful completion of multiple iron-distance triathlons and marathons across the United States.
