Senator Mike Michot serves as Senior Director of State Affairs for The Picard Group. Michot represented the Acadiana area in the Louisiana Legislature for 16 years, retiring in 2012 and was elected to the Senate in 2000, after serving in the Louisiana House of Representatives for one full term.
In his final term in the State Senate, Michot served as chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, making him one of two Legislative architects charged with the construction of the state’s $28 billion annual appropriation’s bill, funding all aspects of state government. Michot also served as chairman of the Joint Legislative Committee on the Budget for two years.
Michot served on the following House of Representatives committees from 1996 to 2000: House Commerce, House Labor and Industrial Relations, and House Natural Resources. He served on the following State Senate committees from 2000 to 2012: Senate Finance (chairman 2008 to 2012), Senate Select Committee on Consumer Affairs & Technology (chairman 2004 to 2008), Senate Commerce, Consumer Protection and International Affairs (vice chairman 2000 to 2008), Senate Natural Resources (2000 to 2008), Senate Judiciary A (2000 to 2004), Senate Judiciary C (2004 to 2008), Senate Retirement (2001 to 2004), Senate Revenue & Fiscal Affairs (2004 to 2008), Joint Legislative Committee on the Budget (Chairman 2008 & 2009, Vice-Chairman 2010 & 2011), and Louisiana State Bond Commission (2008 to 2012).
Michot owned and operated Premier Medical Equipment in Lafayette for 20 years. He is also a real estate developer and has been active in community service organizations, including the American Heart Association, Boys & Girls Clubs of Acadiana, United Way and the Catholic Diocese of Lafayette’s Opus Christi Magnum fundraiser. He has received various awards for his public and community service including Legis-Gator of the Year, Business Champion, Distinguished Citizen and the Bishop’s Medal. He is currently a member of the Kiwanis Club of Lafayette, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and serves as a board member for Community Foundation of Acadiana and Lourdes Foundation. Michot is a graduate of Leadership Lafayette and Leadership Louisiana.
Michot graduated from Cathedral-Carmel High School in Lafayette and University of Louisiana Lafayette, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance. He currently resides in Lafayette and is married to Monique Broussard Michot. He is the father of two children, Michael Jr. and Mary Carolyn.
